Having become essential for some, and a source of leisure for others, the electric scooter is the new booming mobility device. The Xiaomi brand has understood this well since it is the market leader. However, despite its undeniable qualities, its scooters can also encounter more or less serious malfunctions. So, when a green light appears on the Xiaomi scooter, what can cause it? How to solve the potential malfunction? Find out the answers in this article.

What does the green light on your Xiaomi electric scooter mean?

Un green light can be on on the dial or on the charger of your scooter. Depending on where and when it appears, it can indicate various problems. Find out then what are the different meanings of the green lights on a Xiaomi scooter.

Economy Mode

At first, when one of the lights on the control panel of your Xiaomi scooter is lit green when you turn it on or while riding, it means it is in “ECO” mode (economic). The other symptom that confirms that this mode is engaged is that your scooter will not be able to not exceed 15 km/h. This economy mode makes it possible to limit energy consumption and therefore to save the battery for better autonomy.

So if your Xiaomi electric scooter is not fast enough for you and you want exit ECO mode, here's how to do it:

  • Turn on your Xiaomi electric scooter
  • Press the Power button twice
  • The scooter's green LED should then turn white

If you want to switch on the ECO mode again to extend the autonomy of the scooter, you just have to start the procedure again and therefore press the Power button twice again.

Charger or battery problem

In principle, when you connect the Xiaomi scooter to its charger, a red light comes on indicating that it is charging. As soon as the battery is full, the light then turns green, indicating that the battery is fully charged.

Si your Xiaomi scooter no longer charges when you plug in the charger and the LED stays green as if to indicate the end of the charge, it may then be that the problem comes from the charger or the battery. Several causes can be at the origin:

  • battery safety after overcharging or overvoltage
  • a faulty charger
  • a damaged or failing battery

In most cases, a simple reset fixes the problem. However, if this does not work or the failure reappears regularly, then you will need to test the charger and the battery to identify the problem and fix it once and for all.

What to do when Xiaomi scooter green light is on?

When the green light on the Xiaomi electric scooter stays on while you plug in the charger, manipulations will be required to solve the problem. We encourage you to perform the troubleshooting steps in order, from easiest to hardest.

Reset Xiaomi Scooter Battery

At first, when the Green LED stays on on Xiaomi scooter, the problem may come from the battery safety and therefore software. A reset of the device then makes it possible to delete the errors recorded in the memory of the scooter and to resolve the malfunctions. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Turn off the scooter and turn it off
  2. Remove the battery cover by removing the screws located on the underside of the footrest
  3. Disconnect battery power (large red and black wires connected to control board)
  4. Connect the charger to the scooter for about 30 seconds (do not touch anything while charging)
  5. Unplug the charger and reconnect the battery power
Note: Opening the scooter voids your warranty rights. If you are still eligible for the manufacturer's warranty or an extended warranty, then contact the Xiaomi after-sales service for repair of the device free of charge.

Then try to turn on the scooter with the Power button. If the scooter turns back on, turn it off again and reconnect the charger. The Xiaomi's green light should turn red to let you know the load. If it still does not work, then the charger may be faulty.

Test the charger of the Xiaomi electric scooter

Xiaomi electric scooter green light what to do?

When the light on your Xiaomi electric scooter stays green when you plug it in even though its battery is not full, it may be that the voltage supplied by the charger is no longer high enough to recharge the battery. To test if the failure comes from your charger, you can either borrow a compatible functional chargerEither test its charging voltage by proceeding as follows:

  1. Plug the charger into a working electrical outlet
  2. Position the multimeter on direct current voltmeter
  3. Position one of the lugs on the outside of the charger tip, and the other lug on the inside. If you have never performed the manipulation, we advise you to consult a video tutorial on the net. Beware of short circuit!

If the voltage displayed on the multimeter is correct and therefore similar to the battery voltage (between 35V and 42V), the charger operates normally. On the other hand, if the voltage is lower or that there is no voltage, the charger is broken. It is therefore most certainly responsible for the charging and green light problem on the Xiaomi scooter. You will then have to replace it with a similar charger. Avoid counterfeits and cheap chargers which can damage the battery.

Test the scooter battery

Si the green light comes on when you plug in the Xiaomi scooter when it should turn red because the battery is not fully charged, the problem may also come from the latter.

Indeed, the Xiaomi scooter battery is lithium ion. They have the advantage of being light and able to withstand multiple refills, however they are also relatively fragile. They are therefore very often the first elements to break down on a scooter, and this, because of various factors which can damage them: By charging and discharging (and in particular in the event of deep discharge), the cells wear out and eventually break down. Repeated shocks and vibrations can damage or disconnect the connectors and welds of the battery, which will then no longer be able to transmit the voltage. Finally, the Z fuse of the BMS board may also have blown in the event of an overvoltage.

Note: Opening the scooter voids your warranty rights. If you are still eligible for the manufacturer's warranty or an extended warranty, then contact the Xiaomi after-sales service for repair of the device free of charge.

You will then have to test the various elements mentioned to try to find the fault and solve it. But before you do that, start with test battery power To be certain that the problem comes from there, proceed in this way:

  1. Turn off the scooter all the time handling.
  2. Turn the scooter upside down and remove all the screws at the level of the footrest with a screwdriver then remove the compartment.
  3. On the left, near the chassis, is the electronic card. On the other side is the battery.
  4. Check that the battery cables are in good condition and have not inadvertently disconnected, which could create a false contact.
  5. If no cable appears cut or disconnected, disconnect the 3 terminal blocks (cables) which connect the battery to the electronic card and to the power supply.
  6. Measure battery voltage. To do this, use the multimeter set to direct current voltmeter (200V) and put the test probes on its power supply terminals. The black terminal on the black wire and the red terminal on the red wire of the power supply (wires that you have just disconnected). The voltage measured should be approximately similar to that of your battery, between 35V and 42V.

If the voltage is good, your battery is functioning normally. If the voltage is not good, you can then try to find the origin of the problem by testing the welds, the cells and the BMS board. You will find the detailed procedure in our article Xiaomi m365 scooter does not turn on anymore what to do, to the party "Test the different components of the battery“. These manipulations require more advanced electrical clearances. Otherwise you can replace the battery now with a new original Xiaomi battery (not counterfeit).

Contact Xiaomi after-sales service

If you green light on your Xiaomi scooter persists and you are unable to solve the problem, we advise you to contact the Xiaomi after-sales service, whether your device is under warranty or not. An adviser will then be able to further the investigations according to your model of scooter and your particular case. Afterwards, you will probably be offered a repair.
