The electric scooter is the new urban mobility that has exploded in recent years. Both practical and fast, it has won the hearts of many people. The Xiaomi brand understood this very quickly, and it is now the market leader, in particular thanks to the sale of the m365 model. Unfortunately, like any electronic device, it can eventually break down. And when it's your daily means of transport, it can quickly become very restrictive. Be aware that this does not necessarily mean that it is good for the breakage. Certain manipulations can make it possible to find a scooter in working order. So, without further ado, discover what to do when your Xiaomi 365 electric scooter does not turn on anymore? What are the manipulations to resuscitate her?

Why the Xiaomi electric scooter no longer works?

When your Xiaomi m365 electric scooter no longer works, many elements machine may be the cause:

  • software bug
  • drums
  • the charger
  • the Z fuse
  • the BMS card
  • the connectors
  • the electronic card (or controller)

The failure of these components can come from different factors, but often it follows a bad use. Indeed, if you drove duringbad weather or in water, the components and in particular the battery may have soaked in water. Since the m365 scooter is not completely waterproof, it is not recommended to ride in heavy rain or in puddles. It may also be due to vibes repeated or at a shock. For example, if you took the sidewalk a little too violently, or the scooter fell, a connector or a weld may have failed. It is also possible that following a surcharge or an overvoltage, the software has tripped or the Z fuse is blown. Finally, it can simply be a natural wear components such as the electronic card or the battery. The battery has a limited lifespan. By dint of charging and discharging, its cells end up giving up the ghost. The same if it is not used for a long time.

To solve the problem of the breakdown of your Xiaomi m365 electric scooter, you will have to try toidentify the faulty component, then repair or replace it. Know that most breakdowns are repairable on your own if you have a few basic tools and skills. Otherwise, the intervention of an authorized person will be strongly recommended.

First of all, do some basic manipulations which sometimes solve the problem:

  • If your m365 electric scooter turns on but won't start or not working properly, check that you have not locked it with the app. If so, you need to unlock it by logging into your app with a password. In case you no longer have it, here's how to reset your password: press and hold the brake lever, the throttle lever and the power button simultaneously until you hear beeps. This means that your password will be reset. Then pair the scooter to the app. A wait of 3 hours is often necessary to fully unlock it.
  • If you haven't used the scooter for a while, perform a long refill, i.e. at least 5 hours, before using it.
  • Make sure the outlet you charge the scooter in is working by plugging in another working electrical item.

Contact immediately Xiaomi support for free repair and replacement of your motorized vehicle.

Reset Xiaomi Electric Scooter Battery

At first, it may be that your Xiaomi m365 scooter no longer works following the battery lockout (following an effort or an overvoltage) or a firmware bug. The reset the battery then makes it possible to delete the bugs and errors recorded in the memory of the scooter and any related malfunction. To reset the battery, do the following:

  1. Turn off the m365 scooter and turn it off.
  2. Turn the scooter upside down and remove all the screws on the footrest with a screwdriver.
  3. Remove the compartment. The battery is on the right towards the rear of the scooter, and the control board on the left, near the frame of the device.
  4. Disconnect battery power (large red and black wires to control board).
  5. Connect the charger to the scooter for about 30 seconds (do not touch anything while charging).
  6. Unplug the charger and reconnect battery power.

Then try to turn your scooter back on with the Power button. If everything works normally, the bug may simply be temporary. If, on the other hand, this has not solved the problem, or if it recurs regularly, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Test the Xiaomi m365 electric scooter charger

When your Xiaomi scooter no longer turns on, it could also be because it is not charged. Yes when you plug in your Xiaomi m365 electric scooter it does not charge (no light on or remaining green), then it may be that the battery does not receive the necessary voltage to do this. It could then be a charger problem.

To check that the charger is working, the best thing is to electrically test. For that :

  1. Plug the Xiaomi scooter charger into a working electrical outlet
  2. Set the multimeter to the continuous position (voltmeter)
  3. Be careful not to short-circuit. Position one of the lugs on the outside of the charger tip, and the other lug on the inside. If you have never performed the manipulation, we advise you to consult a video tutorial on the net.

If the voltage measured is consistent with that indicated on the charger or on the battery (between 35V and 42V), the charger is working correctly. If the value displayed is lower or zero, the charger is faulty and is therefore most likely responsible for the fact that your m365 electric scooter no longer charges and therefore no longer turns on.

You must therefore replace it with a new charger of the same rated current. Prefer to purchase an equivalent charger from the Xiaomi brand to be sure of compatibility. Avoid poor quality or counterfeit chargers at all costs as they can cause charging problems and damage the battery.

Test the battery of the Xiaomi scooter

Most of the time, when the Xiaomi m365 scooter does not work anymore, the problem comes from the battery. Indeed, the case of this model does not allow it to be kept stable in the footrest. It then tends to undergo shocks and vibrations, which can impact its components. Plus, it has a limited lifespan, so it will eventually tire and break down, simply because of its age. Especially if you have stored it for a long time and/or at extreme temperatures.

Multiple battery cells may experience issues and explain its failure:

  • one of its connectors is disconnected or damaged
  • one of its welds has failed or is cracked
  • the BMS (Battery Management System) card is faulty
  • one or more of its cells have died
  • the battery got wet and died

It will take test these different elements to find the fault and solve it. The battery is located in the footrest of the Xiaomi m365 electric scooter.

1 – Check if the battery is the cause of the problem

First of all, it is necessary to make sure that the battery is indeed the cause of the breakdown of your Xiaomi electric scooter. Note that if your m365 scooter no longer charges, the failure most certainly comes from the battery. In this case, you can also follow the procedure.

To do this, here is the procedure to follow:

  1. Charge the battery to its maximum capacity.
  2. Switch off the scooter during the whole handling time.
  3. Turn the scooter upside down and remove all the screws at the level of the footrest with a screwdriver then remove the compartment.
  4. On the left, near the chassis, is the electronic card. On the other side is the battery.
  5. Check that the battery cables are in good condition and have not inadvertently disconnected, which could create a false contact.
  6. If no cable appears cut or disconnected, disconnect the 3 terminal blocks (cables) which connect the battery to the electronic card and to the power supply.
  7. Measure battery voltage. To do this, use the multimeter set to direct current voltmeter (200V) and put the test probes on its power supply terminals. The black terminal on the black wire and the red terminal on the red wire of the power supply (wires that you have just disconnected). The voltage measured should be approximately similar to that of your battery, between 35V and 42V.

If the voltage is lower or zero, the battery has a problem. We invite you to consult the next step of the troubleshooting guide. On the other hand, if the voltage is good, the battery is working normally. In this case, the problem most certainly comes from the electronic card. We then invite you to go to the relevant part of the article.

Note: video tutorials that show you how to test an electric scooter battery exist on the web. We advise you to consult them so as not to make any mistakes in the procedure.

2 – Test the different components of the battery

Now that you know that your Xiaomi m365 electric scooter no longer turns on because its battery is defective, then you will need test its different components to try to solve the problem. If you don't have the operation skills, it is better to replace the whole battery with a new one now.

To test the elements of the battery that prevents your scooter from charging or working, here's how:

  1. After disconnecting the 3 terminal blocks, you will also need to remove the screws on each side of the battery to be able to remove it from the footrest. Also remove the light cable from the back of the battery. Then place the battery on a suitable support.
  2. Cut the plastic envelope of the battery in the middle and lengthwise using a cutter to gain access to its cells. Be careful to open the battery protective envelope properly because it allows it to be sealed and you will therefore need it for reassembly. A battery that is no longer waterproof risks taking on water and no longer working.
  3. The cells (kinds of large batteries) are assembled in series using terminal blocks (small metal tabs), which allows the battery voltage to be distributed. It will then be necessary measure the voltage on each terminal.
    • The voltages measured must all be identical. If one of them has a lower voltage, the problem is with that one. There is probably an electrical discontinuity somewhere that is losing voltage. Then check that the welded fixing pastes have not failed (which often happens when you ride) or are not damaged (often cracked). If so, it will take resolder by adding tin to the solder failed to reestablish the connection. In case you don't have the tools or skills to do this, replace the entire battery. If no solder has jumped or looks bad, unfortunately one of the cells in the terminal with the lower voltage is probably dead. It will then be necessary to replace the battery as a whole.
    • If the voltages detected are all the same, then the problem most likely comes from the BMS board and/or the Z fuse on it. Proceed to the next step in the guide.
  4. If you manage to repair the battery of your Xiaomi m365 electric scooter, you will need reassemble the battery taking care to put back its protective packaging to ensure its tightness. Close it with tape and adhesive tape all around. Then reassemble the battery and the connectors in the reverse order of dismantling. Put the scooter on charge, then try to turn it back on. It should work again.

Note: If you need to replace the battery, we advise you tobuy a brand new original Xiaomi battery. You will be certain of its compatibility and that it does not cause any other problems on the scooter.

3 – Test the BMS board and the Z fuse

It may also be that your Xiaomi m365 electric scooter does not start because of the BMS board (Battery Management System). The BMS card is used to check that the battery is working normally. It therefore protects it from a lot of problems such as overvoltage, overcurrent or overheating. It is located on the left side of the battery. If a blue light flashes at its level, this is a rather good sign since in most cases it means that it is working. On the other hand, if it flashes red or not at all, this confirms the fault.

In any case, we advise you to test it. To do this, very carefully remove it from its slot. This is a particularly tedious manipulation, so you will need patience. Note that you don't have to take it out completely and unplug everything to test it. Just let the upper part of the card appear. Then do the following:

Initially, RESET the BMS board because it happens that she has planted. To do this, press the metal button on the right corner of the card for a few seconds, until the LED starts flashing red. It should then automatically switch back to blue. If this is not the case, it will be necessary to test the card and therefore the fuse.

Test the fuse of the card which is named “Z”. This fuse is often the main culprit of the failure since it cuts the power supply circuit when it detects a problem. The fuse is said to have blown. To verify this, test the voltage of the fuse using a multimeter. Place the red lug on the red power wire, then the black lug on the bottom of the Z fuse. The voltage should be between 35V and 42V. Do the same by putting the black terminal on the top of the Z fuse. The voltage should be approximately the same.

If this is not the case, the fuse and the card are therefore out of service and this explains why your Xiaomi scooter no longer turns on. For the card to work again, the fuse will then have to be replaced. Since the handling is particularly complicated, we advise you to replace the BMS board in its entirety.

Also note that the BMS board replacement is particularly laborious and that it is necessary to have electrical authorizations to achieve this. Indeed, you will have to remove all the connectors to take it out of its slot, remove the temperature sensor, unsolder the power connectors and remove the tab that connects it to the battery. Then replace the new card in the reverse order of dismantling. Once the power connectors have been resoldered and the tab connected, press the RESET button. The light should flash blue. Once again, do not hesitate to watch video tutorials to have the procedure guided.

Test the electronic card of the electric scooter that no longer works

If the battery and the BMS board are not the cause of the problem, your Xiaomi m365 electric scooter does not turn on, most likely because of the electronic board. The electronic card (also called controller, motherboard or board) is the machine's main control board. In other words, it's his brain. It allows you to manage and power all the other components of the scooter. If it no longer works, your Xiaomi scooter will not work.

As seen previously, the electronic card is located next to the battery. To test it, you will need measure its input and output voltages using a multimeter set as an alternating current voltmeter and its MOSFET transistors. If the voltages are good, the card is working normally. If the voltages are not correct, the board is probably faulty. It will then have to be replaced by an identical one.

To replace the motherboard of your Xiaomi 365 scooter, the best thing is to refer to a video tutorial. We recommend the following tutorial:How to replace the controller of your Xiaomi 365 scooter“. You can also find on the same channel a tutorial showing you how to test MOSFETs.

Contact after-sales service, a professional repairer or replace the scooter
