The printer's Ethernet port allows it to be connected to the local network of the Livebox and makes it accessible to all equipment connected to this same network: computers, smartphones, tablets. The big advantage of a connection via Ethernet is therefore that it allows simplified access for your computers and mobile devices. In addition, if the USB connections no longer work properly, the Ethernet cable can then take over. But then, how to connect an Ethernet printer to a Livebox?

How to connect printer in Ethernet on Livebox?

How to connect an Ethernet printer to a Livebox?

To connect a printer via an Ethernet link to a Livebox, the procedure is relatively simple since generally, it does not require any particular configuration after having connected it. Its installation is done automatically.

Obviously the connection can only be made if your printer has an Ethernet connection. To do this, check that the printer supports the IPP 1.1 standard and that it has an Ethernet port.

Connect the printer to the Livebox Ethernet network

To connect the printer via Ethernet to your Orange router, first of all, you will obviously need the connect :

  1. Turn on the printer. Note that some printers must have paper in the paper tray in order to be configured.
  2. Remove the protective cover from the Ethernet port which is usually located at the back of the printer.
  3. Connect an Ethernet cable to the printer and to one of the Ethernet ports on your Livebox. Note that there are generally 4 internet ports on Livebox models.

Most of the time, there is no configuration to perform on the Livebox, on your PC or on your mobile devices: Once the Ethernet cable is connected to the Orange box, the configuration is done automatically on your media(s).

Install the printer on the computer

If your computer or other mobile devices do not detect the printer, then you may need to install it manually.

In principle, the pilots of the printer are installed automatically and you can immediately use the printer. However, sometimes you will need toadd printer driver (computer) or a application (phone, tablet) of your printer to configure it or connect it to your devices. In this case, it should be indicated to you on the paper user manual or the printer manufacturer's website.

Add the printer to the network

Finally, if the printer is not detected by your mobile devices or computer connected to the same network and therefore to your Livebox, then add it to the network. For that :

  1. In the menu Start, go to Control panel
  2. In Hardware and audio, go in Peripherals and Printers
  3. Click on Add a printer
  4. The setup wizard on your PC will automatically search for the printer. If its name appears, select it, click on Next, And then Completed.
  5. If your PC cannot find the printer, click Add Printer Using TCP/IP Address or Host Name
  6. Entrez the printer's IP address and validate

What if the printer does not connect to the Ethernet Livebox network?

Si you are unable to connect your printer to your Livebox via Ethernet, check that the Ethernet cable you are using is not damaged. Also check connection status thanks to the lights located on the Ethernet port of the Livebox to which your printer is connected:

  • Yellow or green LEDs lit or flashing: Ethernet connection functional
  • Green light on and flashing: limited flow
  • Two lights off: No connectivity

If you are unable to connect your printer to the Livebox via Ethernet, you can then call the Orange customer service to obtain personalized information both on your problem and also according to your configuration (model of Livebox, printer, mobile devices).
